A Saint Is Born

I think daddy needs to be pinched -- his son is born and the Saints go to the Super Bowl all in the same week!!!

Hours after I posted the blog saying that "any day now" can hurry up... my water broke! It woke me up at 2:15 in the morning, and we got to the hospital at about 3 in the morning. 19 hours later... and after 2 hours and 15 minutes of pushing, Thomas Joseph Reno Martin was born at 9:05 p.m. He weighed in at 7 lbs 1 oz and was 19 inches long.

We came home Wednesday afternoon and Grandma Reno stayed to help us out. She did all the cooking and cleaning so Frankie & I could focus on TJ. It was a HUGE help!

Grandma Martin & Uncle Joey came to visit for a few days so they could meet TJ, too.

We're starting to get the hang of things and are loving our little boy.

Any Day Now...

With two weeks to until D-Day, this whole "any day now" thing can hurry up. We're ready, and we can't wait to hold TJ in our arms and bring him home. Plus, have I mentioned... I'm done being pregnant. I'm not a very patient person, and I think waiting 38 weeks is long enough. :)

The weekend was spent getting ready for baby. I had the car washed, waxed and detailed... ready to bring him home. Frankie shampooed the carpets and rearranged the family room. I cleaned the kitchen, living room, dining room and cleaned the floors. Frankie also put the shelves up in the nursery and they look really great!

I was hoping the housework would help kick things into gear, but no luck... a long walk didn't even help.

I'm back to work on Monday, but will be taking Wednesday off so I can have a day to rest. We go back to the doctor on Wednesday afternoon, so hopefully the doctor will have some good news and more progress will have been made. Or... maybe... we won't need to go to a prenatal checkup at all! :)

Wild Thing

TJ was a little crazy at the doctor's office today. At first, he wouldn't stop moving for the nurse to stay on his heartbeat. Every time she would get it, he'd move again. Finally, she was able to stay on the heartbeat, but he was moving so much, she couldn't get an accurate read. There were a few times she said, "Sit still, little one." I have a feeling we'll be saying that a lot in the future. :)

Things are still "normal" for the pregnancy. The doctor says I'm still about one centimeter dilated, so that hasn't changed. However, a week ago, I was 30% effaced and today, I'm 80% effaced, so there's been a lot of progress made there.

Last week, the doctor estimated TJ at about 7 lbs. Today, the doctor said he expects him to be "bigger than average" and that he won't be surprised if "he's pushing 8 pounds when it's time to deliver." I don't think I'll like that at all, so it's just one more reason the little guy should come out sooner than later. :)

I have been having more frequent contractions in the past few days. Still, there's no consistency or pain with them... just a lot more. We go back for another appointment next Wednesday. Maybe he'll be here by then, but I doubt it. :)

The Waiting Game...

We went to our second weekly appointment this afternoon, and found that I've thinned more since last week, but nothing too significant, and I'm still about one centimeter dilated. I don't know what I was hoping for... but the doctor says now we're in the time where we just wait. Anyone who knows me, knows that I don't like to wait. :)

I've been off for the past four days, and I've used that time to get the house ready for the baby. It's ALMOST clean enough for him to come home, so I'm feeling a little better about that. I'll have Frankie take a picture tomorrow since we've been bad about keeping up on those.

Frankie's been working a ton trying to get ahead of the game for his show so he won't be totally screwed when the baby comes, so I've had most of the past few days all to myself. It's just been me and the cats and the dog. And that dog...

He ran away yesterday - got out of the garage and took off. He usually only plays in the yards of our neighbors for a few minutes then comes when I give him a treat. Not this time. The brat took off for about six or seven blocks, and pregnant-ol-me followed him, shuffling along the icy/snowpacked roads saying, "Here Jackson, come get a treat," over and over again. He'd let me get close then take off running again. I finally went back to the house to get the car so I could drive around and look for him. Luckily, after about 10 minutes of driving around, I spotted him, but he I still couldn't catch him. A man came out of his house and corralled him for me, then put him in the Jeep. My favorite line: "I just looked out my window and saw this poor pregnant woman chasing her dog, so I had to help." Nice. I must've been a real sight to see. Damn dog.

Daddy Diary 2010

This is a pic from our first trip to New Orleans
This is what we used to consider the "good 'ol days"
-
Rumors of my death were greatly exagerrated.
I am back!
-
Well folks... we have come to the end of the road.
Looks like baby beans (TJ) will come at any time.
Here's a news flash.
We're Ready!
Well at least I think we are ready... as ready as we are going to be.
I know, I know... I have no idea what life is going to be like.
No sleep.
No more extra money.
So what.
It's not like I haven't been tired and broke before.
-
We'll see how this changes in the next few weeks. huh?
-
Footnote:
I think Lesley and I have mastered "No children" marraige.
Friday we were with each other for the entire day... I mean the only time we were apart was when we each went to the bathroom. The entire day.
And when the night was over, the only thing I could think was, "I sure am going to miss her tomorrow."
But I know, it's like having a rubik's cube. When you solve it and put it on the bookshelf. People come over and see it and say, "oh cool, you solved a rubik's cube. Good for you."
