Daddy Diary 06-16-10

It's been a while, but I am back.
Les has benn on me to post some stuff on the blog, but I haven't had a whole lot of time. Thankfully, she is really good at keeping up with this.
She is the best.

With my first father's day coming up, I am starting to get excited. Not only will I have a weekend off, but I can be with my wife and child too. That's all the gifts I need. (But this would be nice http://www.saintsshop.com/saints/product.php?productid=17965&cat=388&page=1)
Just kidding.

As I learn what it takes to be a "good dad," every single day.
I can only look up to those who came before me.
Lesley's Dad, Tom.
My Brother, Joey.
etc., etc.

I will always strive to be the men they are.
Here's a funny story to illustrate. One day, I hope my child talks about me like this.
Lakers forward Luke Walton couldn't get away from John Wooden's preachings even in high school. Luke's father, Bill Walton, who played for Wooden at UCLA, made sure of it.

"We were in high school, my dad would write John Wooden's quotes on our lunch bag," Walton said yesterday after Lakers' practice at Staples Center. "They're simple, but all of them make a lot of sense. 'Be quick but don't hurry.' Simple but they make sense."

What A Week!

It's been a crazy week! Frankie's been traveling a lot this month for work. We thought we had a great plan, but you know what they say about "best laid plans." We were all set for Frankie to leave on Friday morning. I was going to go to Buggy Fitness, drop TJ off at day care, get Aunt Angie, come back, pick up TJ and Aunt Angie would watch him while I worked.

Well... none of that happened! I ended up having to work dayside Friday. That was an easy fix --I just put TJ in full day for that day. It was sad for Aunt Angie, but it wasn't a stressful fix.

Daddy leaving on Thursday... that was another story. I did not know what to do about TJ. Thankfully, two of my girlfriends came to the rescue. Adriane had a car seat, so she picked TJ up from day care that evening. Then, Jessica came over and took care of him until I got home from work. I was so appreciative because I don't have the easiest schedule, and it was so great for Jay to stay so late! They were like my Fairy Godmothers... and TJ had a great time! He gave Adriane a huge smile when she came to get him... and he loved spending time with Jay. We're so lucky to have wonderful friends that will drop everything and help us out! :)

TJ had to go to the doctor on Thursday. He's been congested ever since his baptismal weekend. I had talked with the doctor a few times, and we were keeping an eye on it. His fever never really returned, and he continued to be his happy, smiley self. When it became clear it wasn't going to clear up... we went back to the doctor. Turns out, the lovebug has a sinus infection. He's been on antibiotics for a few days, and things are finally breaking up and clearing out. It's such a relief!

The past week or so, we kept saying how we thought he just got big overnight! Turns out, we were right. At his 4 month appointment three weeks ago, TJ weighed 13 pounds 4 ounces. On Thursday, our little chunky monkey weighed in at 15 pounds!!! He gained almost 2 pounds in 3 weeks! His little chubby legs and feet are so flippin' cute!

Mommy was tired of being a single Mom every weekend, so we packed up the car and the dog and drove to Grandpa & Grandma's house.

TJ hadn't seen Grandpa for about a month, and it was so cute to see that huge grin as soon as he saw him. There's just something about Grandpa that just lights TJ up! He also loves Grandpa's chair.

He also got some quality time in with Auntie Angie... it made up for her missing out on watching TJ on Friday. :) Auntie Angie gave him a fun book this weekend... TJ was holding it while I read it to him... then he took it from me and started eating it! :)

We came home a little early this evening to calm down a bit from the excitement of the week, and now he's snuggled in his bed... sound asleep.

Tomorrow morning it's buggy fitness and Daddy comes home!!! :)

Another Milestone

On Thursday, TJ rolled over for the first time, and just like when he giggled first, Mommy & Daddy both missed it. The big roll happened at day care. So far, the rolling isn't consistent, so we haven't seen it, yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I'll be there for the second time.

Daddy is out of town for work again this weekend. It's so hard for him to be away, but TJ & I have gotten the hang of things with it just the two of us. We use the time to catch up. :)

This weekend, we were able to catch up with Mommy's friend Alanna and her baby boy, Grayson. Alanna & I have been friends since junior high school. She was a bridesmaid in our wedding, so it's so much fun to have our babies so close in age. TJ and Grayson are only a few days apart. TJ was born on a Monday, Grayson on that Friday. The last time they were together, they were only a few weeks old, and it was so fun watching them together this weekend. During pictures TJ was giving his friend love... and Grayson was smiling away. He's such a fun little guy.

TJ also got to meet Ali, one of Mommy's longtime friends from elementary school. I was so glad she was able to come up and spend time with us and the babies.

Mommy had a milestone this week, too. I decided to try on my pre-TJ jeans (as I like to call them) and to my surprise -- they fit!!! I was pretty happy especially since we had a two-week break from Buggy Fitness. :)

On Memorial Day, Dr. Oz came to town to start and run the Bolder Boulder. Afterwards, he came by the station to appear on 7News Now. Grandma Reno is a huge Dr. Oz fan, so I sucked it up and got my picture with the doc. :)

I had a Mommy-moment this past week, too. I washed my cell phone in the laundry! I guess that's better than the last time I ruined my phone (flushed it down the toilet). :) I tried drying it out in rice, which actually did dry it out, but there was still a short in it, so now I have a cheap, dinky phone.

This week is going to be another busy one with Mommy's and Daddy's schedules, but like always... we'll get through it!
